Ezra Koenig, the lead vocalist, enchants the listener with dark and organic vocals. This, combined with the subtle hint of synths used throughout their music, enhances the sense of melancholy found on Modern Vampires of the City. The music tackles themes focused around growing up, lost love and religion. This happens in an almost subtle way without the listener realising it, forcing you to actively sit down and ponder about what they are singing. With quote-worthy lyrics such as “wisdom’s a gift, but you’ll trade it for youth”, expect to introspect. With well-written lyrics, experimental sounds and amazing vocals, Modern Vampires of the City is a must0have in any music lover’s collection.
