Tough Love – The Shape of Water
What a fun film!
Although it is very dark, specifically in its dim lit shots and basement feel, it has this air of fun romanticism.
When a mute woman makes an unlikely connection with a lab experiment, she must save him at all costs and let’s just say things don’t always go to plan.
This film manages to balance the serious and humour in such a way that the situation is never a burden for the audience to carry. It has themes of romance, politics, ethics and even some espionage! But in totality the film just deals with compassion.
It also points out so beautifully that communication goes beyond words and bravery can come from the most unlikely of places!
My one critique would be that they turned it into an R-rated film unnecessarily but otherwise it was truly wonderfully done.
